Resistance training improves the lipid profile, combat oxidative stress and inhibit MMP-2 activity in the left ventricle diet-induced obese rats

Abstract: The purpose of the present study was to evaluate the effects of the resistance training (RT) on the lipid profile and metabolism, oxidative stress, and activity of metalloproteinase-2 (MMP-2) in the left ventricle (LV) of dietinduced obesity rats. Methods: Forty males Wistar rats 90 days-old were grouped into four groups (n=10): i) Sedentary group (SED); ii) Obese sedentary group, feed with high-fat diet (Ob-SED); iii) Resistance Trained group (RT), and iv) Obese Resistance trained group (Ob-RT). The LV was as… Show more

“…We also highlight that, although there were no differences between most cytokines, there was an increase in vaspin in obese animals, which has been used as a biomarker of adiposity, and a reduction of adiponectin in HFD animals. These data together show the effective induction of obesity, supporting the studies already described in the literature (Estadella et al, 2004;Duarte et al, 2008;Sene-Fiorese et al, 2008;Speretta et al, 2012Speretta et al, , 2016Suk and Shin, 2016;Diogo et al, 2020). In addition, the diet promoted a decrease in the food intake of these animals.…”

“…Em relação às características dos animais ( Tabela 3 ), a maioria dos estudos (n = 4; 80%) utilizou ratos Wistar 28 - 30 e Sprague-Dawley, 30 enquanto apenas um artigo utilizou camundongos Swiss. 31 Todos os estudos foram realizados com animais machos, e a idade inicial dos animais variou entre 21 e 90 dias.…”
