Resistin as a Prooxidant Factor and Predictor of Endothelium Damage in Patients with Mild Acute Pancreatitis Exposed to Tobacco Smoke Xenobiotics

Abstract: Objectives The study was aimed to assess the influence of tobacco smoke exposure on the intensity of inflammation measured by IL-6, α1-antitripsin (AAT) and α1-acid glycoprotein (AGP) concentrations, and Cd level and oxidative stress intensity measured by advanced oxidation protein product (AOPP) concentration in the blood of healthy subjects and AP patients during hospitalization. Endothelin-1 (ET-1) and resistin concentrations, markers of endothelium injury, were determined. Results An increased IL-6 concent… Show more

“…In many studies, it has been shown that SOD3 is mainly expressed in endothelial cells [ 11 , 26 , 27 ], and its decrease was associated with vascular endothelium damage and the infiltration of inflammatory cells [ 5 , 10 , 28 ]. In our previous study [ 29 ], we demonstrated an increased concentration of endothelium damage markers in AP patients which could be associated with decreased SOD3 concentration in the plasma of these patients. Additionally, in other studies, it has been shown that the expression of SOD3 is depressed by TNF-α and IL-1α in cultured fibroblasts which are also engaged in inflammatory responses [ 30 , 31 ].…”

“…Our previous studies, conducted in the population of patients with pancreatitis, showed an important role of oxidative stress induced by cigarette smoke in the progression of inflammation [9,10]. One of many enzymes involved in xenobiotics detoxification is γ-glutamyltransferse (GGT) (EC 2.3.2.2) -a membrane-bound enzyme occurring in different tissues, but most abundantly in kidneys, liver and pancreas.…”

“…High level of resistin induces inflammation and inflammation-related diseases like atherosclerosis and arthritis in animal and human studies [15,16]. Resistin levels are increased in the pancreatic tissues of patients with acute pancreatitis, and the increased expression of resistin correlates with the severity of acute pancreatitis [17][18][19]. Jiang and Wang [20] demonstrated that resistin aggravates the expression of proinflammatory cytokines tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) and IL-6 in cerulein-stimulated AR42J pancreatic acinar cells.…”
