“…SNPs are found in the RETN promoter and 3'-untranslated regions [14]. Genetic variation at the RETN locus carries a risk of several diseases, including the metabolic syndrome and colon cancer [15,16] and those with a functional RETN gene polymorphism at -420 (rs1862513) are at risk of developing type 2 diabetes [17,18], and associated with obesity in Tunisian population [19]. RETN SNPs have been found to correlated with worsening disease in Chinese Han patients with lung cancer [20].…”

“…A previous report demonstrated an association between resistin protein and an increased risk of T2DM (Gharibeh et al, 2010). Genetic variants of the gene that codes for resistin, called RETN, were shown to be linked with altered levels of resistin protein in a number of populations (Chen et al, 2010;Zayani et al, 2018). Given these reports, we tested the association of two single nucleotide polymorphisms in RETN, −420(C>G) and +299(G>A), with T2DM.…”

“…RETN (ENSP00000221515) is a functional hormone that mediates the insulin capability to stimulate glucose uptake into adipose cells, thereby contributing to the normal regulation of endocrine functions [ 64 , 65 ]. Secreted by adipocytes, the protein coding by RETN may link obesity to type II diabetes considering its functional biological functions on regulating insulin activity and biological source [ 66 ].…”
