Resolution recovery reconstruction for a Compton camera

Abstract: The spatial resolution from Compton cameras suffers from measurement uncertainties in interaction positions and energies. The degree of degradation in spatial resolution is shift-variant (SV) over the field-of-view (FOV) because the imaging principle is based on the conical surface integration. In our study, the shift-variant point spread function (SV-PSF) is derived from point source measurements at various positions in the FOV and is incorporated into the system matrix of a fully three-dimensional, accelerat… Show more

“…Some preliminary simulations including energy resolution for the scatterers and absorber show a non-negligible degradation of the shift estimates. To a certain extend, some compensation should be achieved by modeling the limited resolution into the reconstruction, either in the system matrix or in the selection of the cone parameters [14]- [17]. For the considered CC configuration with seven scatterers including multiple coincidences into the reconstruction helped to increase the statistical quality of the data and compensate for the effects of miscalculated E 0 introduced by two-interaction coincidences.…”

“…A Gaussian function is the most common function to express PSFs. Unfortunately, however, the Gaussian function is not suitable, and GPF possesses better PSFs in Compton imaging than Gaussian, Lorentzian, and Voigt functions (35,36).…”

“…In Reader et al [3] the method was applied to PET imaging resolution recovery with a Gaussian model for the stationary PSF. Its use for the Compton camera imaging was originally proposed by Kim et al [4] and was further developed by Jan et al [5].…”
