Resonances in alpha-nuclei interaction

Abstract: Tunnelling of α particles through the Coulomb barrier is considered. The main attention is given to the effect of sharp peaks arising in the case of coincidence of the α energy with that of a quasistaionary state within the barrier. The question of the α-nucleus potential is discussed in this light. The method is applied to the α decay of a compound nucleus of 135Pr. The appearance of the peaks in the spectrum of emitted particles is predicted. They can give rise to ‘anomalous’ properties of some neutron reson… Show more

“…At these energies the density of the wave function of the incident particle inside the well reaches a maximum, while the scattering crosssection attributes a bump with the width Γ . This is well illustrated for the scattering of -particles by numerical calculations [28]. Furthermore, if there is an -wave packet inside the nucleus at = 0, which is spread in the energy interval Δ ≫ Γ and is concentrated at the resonance energy , then it exponentially decays later with the lifetime = /Γ [27].…”

“…4) Результаты настоящей работы интересны и для экспериментов (n, α), подобных [23], с мэвными нейтронами. В таких экспериментах могла бы проявиться резонансная структура в спектре α-частиц, предсказанная в работах [16,24,25]. Формулу (9) можно трактовать как прохождение α-частицей того же самого барьера, что и для голого ядра, но с переменной энергией Q α − ∆ǫ(R).…”

“…In scattering, many people put attention to different aspects of internal mechanisms, nucleon-nucleon relations, structure in α-nucleus interactions (for example, see Refs. [97,98]). Understanding of clusters in nuclei is hot topic, it finds its natural place in investigations of scattering.…”
