Response Mechanism of Endogenous Hormones of Potential Storage Root to Phosphorus and Its Relationship With Yield and Appearance Quality of Sweetpotato

Abstract: Field and pot experiments were conducted to explore the response mechanism of endogenous hormones of potential storage root to phosphorus and its relationship with yield and appearance quality of sweetpotato using five different rates of phosphorus addition. Application of adequate amounts of phosphorus (P2 treatment, 112 kg of P2O5 ha–1 in field experiment or 0.04 g of P2O5 kg–1 in pot experiment) improved the yield and the appearance quality of sweetpotato when compared to the control treatment. This observa… Show more

“…However, the shoot dry matter ratio was similar 0–25 days after planting and it dramatically decreased 35 days after planting ( Table 5 ). Root development is primarily measured by the number, weight, diameter, and length of the roots, among other parameters, and these roots morphology could indicate environmental changes, such as stress, the degree of nutrition and water uptake, and, more crucially, the strength of root differentiation in sweet potatoes [ 38 ]. The number of adventitious roots controls the quantity of storage roots during the early growth stage; the more adventitious roots, the more storage roots that form [ 15 , 38 ].…”

“…The samples for phytohormones were stored at −80 °C. An enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA, Shanghai, China) was used to determine ABA, IAA, GA and CTK, as per previous studies [ 68 ]. Fresh leaves of grafted seedlings were collected, weighed as 1.0 g, frozen in liquid nitrogen, and homogenized in a sample extraction buffer.…”
