“…Whether our results can be extrapolated to wild D. magna populations needs further investigation. Animals can show deviations in behaviour between the laboratory and the field (Tiselius, 1995;Prosnier, Loeuille, et al, 2023), and reduced mobility might have detrimental outcomes in the field as mobility is important to find food, to escape predators and more generally to do diel vertical migrations (Dodson et al, 1997;Larsson & Kleiven, 1997;O'Keefe et al, 1998;Roozen & Lürling, 2001; Chang & Hanazato, Knowing the indirect effects of this mobility reduction would be useful to understand noise effects on zooplanktonic community (Rojas, Desjonquères, et al, 2023;Rojas, Gouret, et al, 2023). Continuous noise can occur in the vicinity of certain infrastructures such as water pumping systems of compressors on the bank and an interesting perspective to our work would be to study how water fleas use these noisy areas.…”

“…The protocol is similar to that of Prosnier, Rojas, et al (2023). Gravid D. magna were collected (from the storage aquarium) and isolated in 50-mL jars containing Volvic® water, known as a good medium for D. magna (B. Prosnier from Eau de Paris, a French water industry, pers.…”

“…For instance, in a freshwater community, unpredictable noise should affect more fishes, at top trophic levels, than invertebrates. But if there are various effects within zooplankton community, as expected, leading to bottom-up effects (Rojas, Desjonquères, et al, 2023;Rojas, Gouret, et al, 2023). Zooplankton is highly diverse and predatory species might react differently than their zooplanktonic prey.…”
