Resposta divergente da testosterona e do cortisol séricos em atletas masculinos após uma corrida de maratona

Abstract: Physical exercise alters homeostasis, as it requires prompt mobilization of metabolic sources. In this study, we measured serum testosterone (T) and cortisol (C) levels and the muscle-wastage enzymes CK, CKMB and LDH in 20 healthy male athletes (ages 25 to 40 years) in response to a marathon race (42.2 km). Venous blood samples were drawn in 3 different periods: (i) in the morning, 48 h before the competition (control), (ii) at the end of the race (end), and (iii) in the next morning, 20 h after the race (reco… Show more

“…Contrary to the testosterone, cortisol, a hormone of catabolic characteristics for its hyperglycemiant function, increases the protein degradation rate, being expressed by the urea levels 6 . It is defined as adiamide, which begins its cycle in the liver mitochondria, but builds the three subsequent steps in the cytosol and results from the breakdown of the proteins to their basic units which are the amino acids.…”

“…2 Although some studies [3][4][5][6][7][8][9][10][11] have investigated the effects of physical exercise on leptin, cortisol and zinc levels, pertinent investigations using concurrent training as intervention protocol are rare.…”

“…Some investigations [55][56][57] reported reduction in the plasma cortisol levels, but these results seem to be associated with the chronic effect of training 58 , seen that the strength training routine applied in these studies had duration between 12 and 24 weeks. The investigation by Rosa et al 59 had as aim to analyze the serum cortisol behavior after an acute session of the concurrent training protocol (indoor cycling and bodybuilding, 5-7 on the OMNI RES scale and 85% 1RM, respectively).…”
