Results from the Survey of Antibiotic Resistance (SOAR) 2011–13 in Ukraine

Abstract: Generally, antibiotic resistance was low in respiratory pathogens from Ukraine. However, only amoxicillin/clavulanic acid (amoxicillin), ceftriaxone and levofloxacin were fully active against both species. Trimethoprim/sulfamethoxazole was the least active, particularly against S. pneumoniae. Some susceptibility differences were apparent between CLSI, EUCAST and PK/PD breakpoints, especially with macrolides against H. influenzae. These data suggest that further efforts are required to harmonize these internati… Show more

“…Published studies in the field originate from large tertiary care centers [153][154][155][156][157][158][159][160]. The Surveys of Antibiotic Resistance (SOAR) (2016-2017) conducted to determine the antibiotic susceptibility of S. pneumonia, and H. influenzae isolates from communityacquired respiratory tract infections showed high susceptibility to tested antibiotics and an increase in antibiotic resistance to trimethoprim/sulfamethoxazole and macrolides among S. pneumoniae [161][162][163][164]. The survey data considered the EUCAST/CLSI and pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics breakpoints165.…”

“…However, due to the high risk of injuries from these methods, conservative therapy (with antibiotics and glucocorticosteroids) is now used (Bulfamante et al 2019). Treatment of CPR should begin with the eradication of the pathogen, considering the resistance of the micro-organism and the pharmacological effect of antibiotics (Feshchenko et al 2016;Grayson et al 2019;Iqbal et al 2020). Currently (according to the Eurasian Clinical Recommendations 2016, which are still currently), antibiotics used for the treatment of infectious diseases of the upper respiratory tract are usually divided into 3 lines of therapy (Song et al 2019):…”
