Resveratrol accumulation and its involvement in stilbene synthetic pathway of Chinese wild grapes during berry development using quantitative proteome analysis

Abstract: Attention has become focused on resveratrol not only because of its role in grapevine fungal resistance but also because of its benefits in human health. This report describes the Chinese wild grapevine Vitis quinquangularis accession Danfeng-2 in relation to the high resveratrol content of its ripe berries. In this study, we used isobaric tags for relative and absolute quantification (iTRAQ) tandem mass spectrometry strategy to quantify and identify proteome changes, resulting in the detection of a total of 3… Show more

“…Therefore, further growth of the resveratrol market is expected. Resveratrol currently available on the market is predominantly extracted from certain plants including grape, peanut, and the Japanese knotweed Polygonum cuspidatum ( Chen et al, 2013 ; Chukwumah et al, 2009 ; Li et al, 2017 ). However, due to the unstable harvest of these plants and the low resveratrol purity obtained, it is necessary to develop a stable production process of high-purity resveratrol from inexpensive feedstocks.…”

“…To further study the properties of high stilbene content and high resistance to powdery mildew, multiomics analysis of Danfeng-2 and V. vinifera 'Cabernet Sauvignon' was carried out. Interestingly, analysis of Danfeng-2 transcriptome data (PRJNA306731) revealed many novel transcripts that could not be mapped on the grapevine reference genome (PN40024), including six novel STS transcripts (Li, 2019;Li et al, 2017). However, whether these newly discovered VqNSTS genes contribute to the high levels of resveratrol and the high resistance to U. necator in Danfeng-2 is still unclear.…”

“…These compounds can contribute bitter and astringent characteristics to grapes and wines, impacting overall flavor and mouthfeel properties. Wild varieties are an incredibly valuable genetic resource for grape breeding, particularly for enhancing metabolites such as resveratrol [ 56 ], as well as for disease resistance [ 57 ].…”
