RETRACTED ARTICLE: Biosynthesis of colloidal silver nanoparticles: Their characterization and potential antibacterial activity

Abstract: The colloidal silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) were synthesized in situ under white light at room temperature using aqueous silk fibroin (SF) obtained from Bombyxmori silk. The UV-visible spectroscopy revealed the formation of AgNPs by showing a typical surface Plasmon resonance (SPR) band at 422 nm from the UV-visible spectra. The transmission electron microscope (TEM) images show that the formed nanoparticles were spherical in shape with smooth surfaces. The particle diameter was around 35-40 nm. Further the X-r… Show more

“…A number of Bragg reflections with 2θ values of 19.017°, 28.348°, 30.894°, 32.337°, 38.079° were observed corresponding to (001), (001), (003), (001) and (002) planes, documenting a typical XRD pattern of AgNPs in the range of 0–80° with Philips Analytical X-Ray. The phase purity and composition of the ZnONPs examined by XRD shows a typical XRD pattern of ZnONPs appeared in the range of 30–80° at a scanning step of 0.01 [ 42 ]. Figure 6 C shows a typical XRD pattern of TiO 2 NPs appeared in the range of 30–80°.…”

“…Another fact is that the DNA has phosphorus and sulphur as its major constituents; the AgNPs can react with soft bases and damage the DNA, which would ultimately lead to cell death as shown in Fig. 7 [26][27][28][29][30][31][32][33].…”

“…Silver (Ag) and Ag nanoparticles exhibit a wide spectrum of oligodynamic actions against bacteria, viruses and fungi with a relatively low risk of developing resistance against the metal, and can be easily synthesised [10][11][12][13]. Hence, Ag has been studied widely for its application, which include forming biomaterial nanocomposite with HA and polymers [14][15][16] or incorporated into HA to form a single phase material for excellent antibacterial property [17,18].…”
