RETRACTED: Bach2 overexpression represses Th9 cell differentiation by suppressing IRF4 expression in systemic lupus erythematosus

Abstract: Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a chronic autoimmune disease characterized by abnormal activation of T cells and caused by an imbalance in the production and clearance of apoptotic cells. We previously showed that the transcription regulator Bach2 regulates abnormal B cell activation in SLE. Here, we investigated whether Bach2 is also involved in Th9 cell differentiation in SLE. We found that the proportion of Th9 cells was enhanced in the peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC) of SLE patients. The PB… Show more

“…However, several studies have reported that Th9 cells and IL-9 play pathogenic roles in multiple sclerosis, SLE, experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis, and other autoimmune diseases. 166 168 Qin et al[169] explored the level of Th9 cells in liver fibrosis caused by HBV or chronic hepatitis B. In this study, the levels of Th9 cells and IL-9 were significantly increased in both patients and mice with liver fibrosis.…”

“…IKZF3 (Aiolos) and IKZF2 (Helios), and BACH2 have been implicated in other autoimmune disease such as systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) [25,[31][32][33][34][35][36]. In this study, the expression of these genes was increased in severe cases of CFS and greater upregulation was observed in those who suffer from comorbid autoimmune diseases, suggesting that CFS is, in part, an autoimmune disease.…”

“…TLR2 activation results in increased expression of IL-33 and its receptor ST2, augmenting IL-9 gene expression and Th9 cell development [ 45 ]. Similarly, in patients with SLE, Th9 cell differentiation is suppressed by repression of IRF4 expression [ 46 ]. Although the role of Th9 has been explored in experimental models of MS and IBD, there is insufficient evidence regarding its role in humans.…”
