Retracted: Western pacific consensus proposals for management of prediabetes

Abstract: Prediabetes is an intermediate metabolic state between normoglycaemia and diabetes, including impaired fasting glucose (IFG), impaired glucose tolerance (IGT) and mildly raised haemoglobin A1c (HbA1c). Recent evidence has shown that individuals with prediabetes may have a higher prevalence of diabetes-associated complications than those with normal glucose levels. The risk of macrovascular and microvascular complications increases as early as in the state of prediabetes. Accumulating evidence demonstrated that… Show more

“…( Sun et al, 2022 ) The prevalence of prediabetes varies markedly across regions due to underlying factors such as genetic predisposition, obesity, lifestyle, and age. ( Ji et al, 2021 ) Based on IFG and HbA1c analyses, the prediabetes prevalence in the United States is approximately 40% ( Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2022 ) and 5%–40% in Asia. ( Ji et al, 2021 ) A high prevalence of prediabetes results in high healthcare expenditure.…”

“…Prediabetes is an intermediate metabolic state between normoglycemia and diabetes, including impaired fasting glucose (IFG), impaired glucose tolerance (IGT), and the mixed-status (IFG+IGT). [ 1 ] Approximately 5–10% of people with prediabetes will become diabetic each year, and up to 70% of individuals with prediabetes will eventually develop diabetes in their lifetime. [ 2 ] The U.S. National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey suggests that 35% of US adults over 20 years of age and 50% of those over 65 had prediabetes in 2005 to 2008 based on fasting glucose or glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c) levels.…”
