Research on light-emitting diodes has considerably progressed over the years, so they are expected to possess excellent color rendition and high luminescent intensity. Cuboid-based red-nitride phosphors are highly promising because they are characterized by a narrow-band emission property, low energy waste, and excellent thermal stability. However, existing nitride phosphors have limited color diversity because of the lack of other anions. A new series of cuboid-based oxide phosphors called alkali lithosilicates is attracting considerable research attention because of these phosphors’ narrow-band emission and color-tunable properties. In this review, we demonstrate for the first time the features of nitride cuboid-based phosphors from a new perspective. The new perspective is then used to elucidate the color-control mechanism of the oxide cuboid-based phosphors. Finally, we propose a perspective about extending the color from the limit of current cuboid-based oxide phosphors. Our results can serve as a new reference for discovering new phosphors and controlling their luminescent color for practical applications.

LEDs are widely used in medicine, navigation and landscape lighting. The development of high-power LED is a severe challenge to LED heat dissipation. In this review, packaging technology and packaging structure are reviewed in terms of the thermal performance of LED packaging, and related technologies that promote heat dissipation in LED packaging are introduced. The design of three components to enhance heat dissipation in LED packaging is described: substrate, lens and phosphor layer. By conducting a summary of the technology and structure of the package, the defects of LED package technology and structure are deeply investigated, and the package is prospected. This has reference value for the heat dissipation design of the LED package and helps to improve the design and manufacture of the LED package.

With the emergence of the different light-emitting diode (LED) packaging materials, the thermal analysis of LED device packaging with different materials has become urgent. The thermal performance of LED packaging with a poly(1,4-cyclohexylenedimethylene terephthalate) frame (PCT-LED) and LED packaging with an epoxy moulding compound frame (EMC-LED) were measured and simulated. The results show that compared with EMC-LED, PCT-LED has better optical and thermal performance. The luminous efficiency of PCT-LED and EMC-LED is 177.31 and 167.42 lm/W, respectively, under 150 mA at 25°C. PCT-LED devices have a lower thermal resistance of 15.64°C/W compared with that of EMC-LED, and under the different temperature and drive current conditions, the excellent thermal characteristic of PCT-LED devices is significant. Moreover, all simulation results agree well with the experimental results, and the maximum temperature of PCT-LED falls faster than that of EMC-LED with a fluid flow rate by thermal simulation. However, EMC-LED has better antiageing performance.
