Review on Source Profiles of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) in Typical Industries in China

Abstract: The source profile of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) is essential for establishing reactivity- and toxicity-based emission inventories and developing effective air pollution control strategies. In this paper, the establishment of VOC source profiles and the VOC emission characteristics are reviewed in the petrochemical, solvent use, and chemical industries, and the most up-to-date profiles of the three industries in China are compiled via necessary adjustment and reconstruction of the test data from the lit… Show more

“…Alkanes were dominant in all profiles, with values ranging from 34.59% to 80.09%, followed by OVOCs and aromatics. It is worth mentioning that OVOCs were neglected in early VOC profiles due to the limitation of sampling and analysis methods . Nineteen species of OVOCs were detected in this study, accounting for 4.29–24.75% of the total VOCs in all samples.…”

“…This leads to varying detection accuracies of different gases by the PID. Hence, in practical VOC monitoring processes, the concentration of the actual monitored VOC gas needs to be multiplied by the corresponding response coefficient (RF) to obtain the respective VOC concentration, which can be determined by formula (2).…”
