Abstract

This collection of papers, written by Fairclough over the decade from 1983 to 1992, exhibits a significant range of issues taken up in his research program in critical discourse analysis (hereafter, CDA). Ten papers are grouped into four sections: A-Language, ideology and power (three papers); B-Discourse and sociocultural change (four papers); C-Textual analysis in social research (one paper); and D-Critical language awareness (two papers). To give the volume more coherence than it would have as a simple collection of papers, Fairclough provides a substantial &dquo;General Introduction&dquo; as well as shorter introductions for each of the four sections.
