Revised and Extended Analysis of Nine-Times-Ionized Lanthanum (La X)

Abstract: The lanthanum spectrum was photographed in the 80-1240 Ð region on a variety of vacuum spectrographs using triggered spark sources. The analysis of nine-times ionized lanthanum (La X) has led to revision of four previously identi¢ed levels of the 5s5d con¢guration and established one new level 1 S 0 of the 5s6s con¢guration, four levels of the 5s4f con¢guration, and nine out of twelve levels of the 5p4f con¢guration. The least squares ¢tted parametric (LSF) and Hartree-Fock (HF) calculations interpret the obse… Show more

“…Currently ground configurations of the lanthanides are known experimentally for ion stages up to the third, and fourth in some cases [2]. As noted in [1], systematic analysis of spectra in higher ion stages of lanthanum and cerium have been performed: La VII [9], La XI [10,11], La XIII [12], Ce III [13], Ce V [14], Ce VI [15], Ce IX [16], Ce X [17] and Ce XIV [10][11][12]. More recently progress has been made in analysing Cd-like ion spectra from Xe VII -Eu XVI [5, 18,19] and Pd-like ion spectra [20].…”

“…In recent years our laboratories in Antigonish and Troitsk undertook the project of revising and extending Cd-like spectra from Xe VII to higher ions. We established 4f5p, 5p5d and 5s5f configurations in Xe VII -Pr XII ions, 4f5d configuration in La X -Pr XII and 4f 2 configuration in Ce XI and Pr XII [4][5][6][7][8][9][10].…”

“…First, extensive work has been carried out in our laboratory on various tellurium ions from Te III to Te X [3^7] which provided us with a superior tellurium wavelength line list containing Te V lines that was not available almost forty years ago. Second, we have recently studied Cd I isoelectronic sequence spectra of I VI [8], Cs III [9], and La X [10] to which Te V belongs, and established two-electron excited con¢gurations, viz 5p6s and 5p5d. Thus the present investigation is a continuation of our program on the Cd I sequence.…”
