“…An expanded Oligocene-Miocene section with a well-defined magnetostratigraphy was recovered (Pälike et al, 2010;Channell et al, 2013), and a continuous spliced record of Holes A, B, and C was placed on a core composite depth scale below the sea floor (CCSF-A; equivalent to metres composite depth; Figs. 2 and 3; Westerhold et al, 2012a). Samples were taken along the splice and all results presented here follow this depth model .…”

“…The dataset for the Australia-Antarctic pair is similar to that presented by Cande and Stock (2004). It is expanded from that used by Lourens et al (2004), who assigned reversal ages spanning from 18.524 to 23.030 Ma for the chron interval The magnetic susceptibility and CaCO 3 content record (Pälike et al, 2010;Westerhold et al, 2012a). Green area indicates the 2σ uncertainty estimate of the coulometry measurements (Pälike et al, 2010).…”

“…All depths reported here for the PEAT Sites U1334, U1336, U1337 and U1338 are in revised metres composite depth (rmcd) (Westerhold et al, 2012;Wilkens et al, 2013) and for Site U1335 depth is given in metres composite depth (mcd) (Pälike et al, 2010). The sedimentary sequences represent a continuous Cenozoic record of the equatorial Pacific recovered along an age transect where different sites were located within a 2°band north and south of the equator for different time intervals (Pälike et al, 2010).…”

“…IODP Site U1334 samples Nannofossils analysed in this study were extracted from the latest Eocene to earliest Oligocene ($34.9 to 33.4 Ma) sediments of IODP Site U1334, eastern equatorial Pacific. Fourteen samples were taken from the primary splice, between 292.73 m and 303.34 m CCSF-A (Westerhold et al, 2012). Here, the Eocene/Oligocene Transition (E/ OT) is clearly identified by the shift from uppermost Eocene, low-carbonate ($20%) radiolarian ooze to lower Oligocene carbonate-rich ($80%) nannofossil ooze (Pälike et al, 2009).…”
