Revision of the genus Xylodrypta Lesne 1901 (Coleoptera: Bostrichidae: Bostrichinae: Xyloperthini) with a new species and a key to species

Abstract: We revise the monospecific bostrichid genus Xylodrypta Lesne 1901, and describe a new species, X. lanna Liu & Beaver from Thailand and Laos. A key is given to distinguish the two species of Xylodrypta.

“…The tribe Xyloperthini now includes 37 genera, with 10 genera occurring in the Afrotropical region. Following a series of revisions of genera of the tribe Xyloperthini (Liu et al 2016(Liu et al , 2021Liu & Beaver 2017;Liu 2021;Liu & Sittichaya 2022), this study added to knowledge of the Afrotropical fauna, and provided baseline information for a future study, which will revise the tribe Xyloperthini.…”

“…The tribe has a worldwide distribution, but the individual genera are mostly confined to a single zoogeographical region or subregion (Morrone 2002;Borowski & Węgrzynowicz 2007;Beaver et al 2011;Holt et al 2013;Sittichaya et al 2013;Park et al 2015;Liu et al 2016Liu et al , 2021Liu & Beaver 2017;Borowski 2018;Liu 2021aLiu , 2021bZhang et al 2022), with the Oriental region having the most genera-rich fauna, and the African region the most species-rich fauna.…”

“…The family Bostrichidae is commonly recognised as a major pest group with an important economical value due to its negative impact on agroforestry ( Chu and Zhang 1997 , Chen 2011 ). Almost 90 species of the family have been recorded in China and several new species of powder-post beetles have been described in recent years ( Chu and Zhang 1997 , Hua 2002 , Liu et al 2006 , Borowski 2007 , Borowski and Węgrzynowicz 2007 , Liu 2010 , Chen 2011 , Liu 2021 , Zhang et al 2022 , Liu and Beaver 2023 ). However, detailed locality information on some of China's existing Bostrichidae species have not been specified ( Chu and Zhang 1997 , Borowski 2007 , Borowski and Węgrzynowicz 2007 , Chen 2011 , Liu 2021 ).…”
