Revitalization Model for Ancient Buildings and Environment in The Cultural Heritage Village Kauman Surakarta

Abstract

This paper introduces the Culture-Power Triangle Revitalization Model, which is based on three pillars: santri culture, batik culture, and spatial patterns of ancient villages. The first pillar summarizes the potential for social harmony in the santri culture. The second pillar represents the economic-cultural potential packaged in batik culture, previously the village’s main economic activity. The spatial pattern of the ancient village, which symbolizes the environment of the capital city of the Islamic Mataram Kingdom, is the third pillar embodied in this model. This model is suitable for revitalizing Kauman as a religious and batik tourism area. From the discussion, the Cultural-Power Triangle Revitalization Model combines cultural, economic, and environmental aspects based on community empowerment, provides a holistic solution for revitalization, and encourages sustainable development while preserving cultural heritage. This revitalization process underscores the involvement of local communities and highlights the need for balanced and sustainable development in all aspects. This model provides valuable insights and can be applied to revitalize other cultural heritage villages in Indonesia. To strengthen this research, further research is needed using the “Power-Cultural Triangle” revitalization model in other similar cultural heritage villages, such as the Kauman Cultural Heritage Village, Yogyakarta.
