Rhenium Electrodeposition and Its Electrochemical Behavior in Molten KF-KBF4-B2O3-KReO4

Abstract: The electrochemical behavior of rhenium ions in the molten KF-KBF4-B2O3 salt was systematically studied, and pure metallic rhenium was obtained at the cathode. The processes of rhenium ions reduction and diffusion in molten KF-KBF4-B2O3 were determined using cyclic voltammetry, stationary galvanostatic and polarization curves analyses. The values of diffusion coefficients were 3.15 × 10−5 cm2/s and 4.61 × 10−5 cm2/s for R1 and R2, respectively. Rhenium electrodeposition was carried out at a constant potential.… Show more

“…This fact is probably related to the crystallization area of the volatile Re 2 O 7 and the more refractory K 3 ReO 5 compound. The presence of rhenium compounds in the Re +7 oxidation state in the K 2 B 2 OF 6 -KReO 4 melts is in agreement with the results reported in [32]. Presumably, the following reaction related to the release of rhenium oxide takes place in the melts:…”
