Rhinoplasty outcomes and trends

Abstract: Purpose of review This article reviewed studies that support the use of implants for nasal valve surgery and augmentation rhinoplasty. Recent findings For nasal valve collapse, there is a trend for rhinoplasty surgeons to use Monarch nasal implant, absorbable valve implant and titanium butterfly implant rather than traditional cartilaginous grafts. For augmentation rhinoplasty, it is still a gold standard to use autologous cartilage. However, alloplasti… Show more

“…Currently, the implant materials commonly used in rhinoplasty are manufactured in a standard mold and then sculpted by the surgeon on the operating table to match the external shape of the patient's nose. The surgical outcome depends more on the aesthetics, experience, and skill level of the surgeon, and many patients do not realize until after the operation that the result is far from what they expected and have to remove the implant again [29,30]. With the introduction and popularity of 3DSI, digitally personalized plastic surgery has become possible.…”

“…24 In the last years, the increase in requests of rhinoplasty brought to light new surgical and medical procedures to satisfy the patient's request. 14 For example, the injection with HA fillers may be a very good choice of treatment in terms of results, but it does not last long and it is not free from severe complications like necrosis of the nasal tip or, in worst cases, loss of vision, even if rare. 15 Open rhinoplasty is required when major aesthetic and functional treatments are needed.…”

“…A significant number of patients may think they only have defects in the upper, middle and lower thirds of the face, but a thorough facial analysis and counseling may lead to requiring a primary or secondary profile improvement. Therefore, several surgical and non-surgical techniques are described to approach a face surgical profileplasty and the authors chose five major items for their purpose: forehead correction [10][11][12] , rhinoplasty [13][14][15] , lips lipofilling [16][17][18] , osseous genioplasty 19,20 and submental liposuction 21,22 .…”

“…14 However, clinical observations found that after rhinoplasty, the cartilage graft survived and reshaped, and the stent was partially absorbed, deformed, and fractured, resulting in changes in the shape of the nose. 15 The changes that have occurred in the human body after cartilage transplantation and the process of absorption and regeneration after autologous cartilage transplantation have always been the focus of clinical work. In recent years, scholars' experiments and reports on cartilage transplantation and outcomes mainly focus on issues, such as whether there are growth or changes in volume or morphology after cartilage transplantation, which mostly used small animals as models to carry out 3 to 6 months of research.…”
