The Rietveld refinement method has taken high relevance since its creation. Nowadays, it is an useful tool in many fields of industry, materials science, and technology. For these reasons, it becomes a need for scientists and engineers whom pretend to use it for proper analysis of their materials. However, the initiation in the method can be slow, taking into account the accelerated rhythm of the research and economic demands. Thus, this work is an intend to fulfill this hole, providing the basic foundations and methodology of the Rietveld refinement in a brief way, this along with the results of its application in superconducting samples of Yttrium Barium Copper Oxide and magnesium diboride, and functional magnetic nanoadsorbents of maghemite and a multiphasic composite (iron oxide, hydroxyapatite and secondary phases). In the process, an in-detail protocol was designed and provided. It was concluded that the samples were successfully refined and that this work represents a fast introduction to the Rietveld method for which beginners can obtain good results while making correct interpretations ofthe whole refinement process.

Single‐source flash evaporation method has recently gained attention for its potential as a rapid and solvent‐free deposition method for producing organic–inorganic halide perovskite (OHP) films in large‐scale. However, due to a complex nature of the different experimental parameters involved in the deposition process, it is not straightforward to obtain the optimal condition for producing high‐quality OHP films. In this study, this problem is tackled by employing the design‐of‐experiment (DoE) process, which is an efficient statistical analysis for finding an optimized condition with a minimized number of experiments. The DoE process is used for optimizing the responsivity of the OHP photodetector devices against the input variables used in the deposition that yielded an enhanced responsivity of 112.2 mA W−1, which is up to an order of magnitude higher than that of the unoptimized devices. The experimental results using the DoE method provide not only the conditions required for enhancing the device performance but also the guidelines for improving the overall film quality through exploring the variable space of the flash evaporation technique.

Crystallization and morphology of perovskite film played an important role to obtain efficient performance of perovskite solar cells. This study is aimed at optimizing the fabrication of hybrid organic–inorganic lead iodide perovskite layer by a two-step method modified by a double dip coating process which enables to control the perovskite crystallization and morphology. The duration time of each circle for the step of dipping PbI2 film to methylammonium iodide solution was varied from 90 to 240 second. The obtained perovskite films were characterized by X-ray diffraction to evaluate the transformation of PbI2 reactant to the perovskite product and its crystallization, by scanning electron microscopy to observe its morphology. Then, the perovskite films were implemented in functional perovskite solar cell devices followed by current–voltage characterization. Results showed that the perovskite was formed via an equilibrium process which reached an optimum transformation of PbI2 to the product after 2 × 150 second circle dip coating, and its morphology was smooth with the least voids. The solar cell devices fabricated at the optimum conditions achieved a comparable performance of about 14%.
