“…This is because the available DSR device provides a mixed controlled mode which allows more reliable results to be obtained in straincontrolled mode at high temperatures, while, the stresscontrolled mode is more effective at intermediate and low temperatures. This experimental procedure has already been successfully validated in several previous studies (18,19,31).…”

“…The detailed procedure can be found in a draft standard ( 12 ). More recently, several studies ( 17 21 ) have succeeded in implementing this testing method in the measurement of low temperature properties of asphalt binders, however, this method only reduces both plate diameter and gap compared with the 8 mm parallel-plate with a 2 mm gap geometry. This is in contrast with the recommendation of Schröter et al ( 16 ) that, together with a smaller plate diameter, larger measurement gap should be used to limit the instrument compliance error, since a reduced measurement gap may increase the error due to the sample size associated with the compliant rheometer system ( 16 ).…”

“…With the extremely increasing loading and aggravation of axis load in the pavement industry, damages such as rutting, cracking etc., are happening more frequently on highways and urban roads [1][2][3][4]. Asphalt modification technology has been considered a practical approach to resolve these concerns by enhancing the durability of asphalt pavements.…”

“…Typically, oscillation measurements are used to evaluate rheological binder properties based on shear modulus G* and phase angle δ. As a consequence of asphalt binder ageing (both oxidative ageing and UV ageing), the shear modulus increases and the phase angle decreases (Feng et al, 2013;Leiva-Villacorta et al, 2014;Lu & Isacsson, 2002;Schrader et al, 2020;Tarsi et al, 2018;Wang et al, 2019). Thus, the material becomes stiffer and more elastic.…”
