Risk-based inspection on highway assets with category 2 defects

Abstract: This paper presents a study piloted on highway assets Category 2 defects. Imminent hazards on highway road networks are significantly accelerated by structural deterioration of highway infrastructures. The inspection and maintenance strategy for highway infrastructure requires continuous improvements to reduce high occurrence of defective highway assets. Combined risk-based inspection (RBI) and stochastic (STOC) techniques is considered in this investigation to give an in-depth understanding of highway asset m… Show more

“…Maintenance, which is a core function for sustaining long-term profitability of assets by organizations, is defined as a combination of all actions with intent to restore the asset to its original state or a state where it can perform its required function. This report devices a novel approach using systematic knowledge of the basics of reliability [7], [8], [9], risk [10], [11], deterioration [12], [13] and cost strategies [3], [14] and models embedded in qualitative and quantitative assessment methods as it is shown in Fig. 2 recognizing that algorithms support effective optimizations of systems [15], [16].…”

“…For proper maintenance, inspection at a proper time interval is required. Inspections form an important part of the integrity management process as a means of monitoring the performance of signalling systems to ensure their safety and serviceability [5][6][7]. Special attention to maintenance and inspection activities and logistics support is required to be taken to improve the reliability and maintainability of the signalling system [8][9][10][11].…”

“…The application of big data in traffic reliability operation has been put forward. It is believed that the new opportunities will be brought to innovation in traffic management and decision-making paradigm [4]. The data quality and data characteristics were analyzed, and the highway reliability estimation methods have been proposed [3,23,21].…”
