“…These factors were not evaluated in our analysis but many are more common amongst patients having incontinence procedures and could explain the increased UTI rate observed. Risk of UTI did not seem to differ by provider specialty (gynecology vs urology), as has previously been observed for MUS . Perhaps this reflects the similar patient population between high volume female pelvic medicine and reconstructive surgery subspecialists in urology and gynecology who perform a large majority of MISCP procedures.…”

“…The literature suggests UTI rates following MUS procedures range from 2.6‐15% and may be as high as 31% amongst women also having prolapse repairs . This wide variability in UTI rates may be partly a result of heterogeneous definitions for UTI.…”

“…Vigil et al studied risk factors for urinary tract infection after surgery with a suburethral sling. Factors independently associated with an increased risk of infection included: age greater than 65 years, BMI greater than 40 kg/m2, and hospital admission [36]. We have not corroborated this association in our series.…”

“…Urinary tract infections (UTIs) are observed in 0.4-21.4% of patients in the post-operative period [13,22,31,44,45]. In our study, UTI was noted in 1 (1.0%) patient in the TVT group.…”
