Robot assisted laparoscopic retroperitoneal lymph node dissection in testicular tumor

Abstract: The treatment options in clinical stage I nonseminomatous germ cell tumor (NSGCT) of testis are either surveillance, chemotherapy or retroperitoneal lymph node dissection (RPLND). While open RPLND still serves as the gold standard, laparoscopic and robot assisted laparoscopic approaches are gaining popularity. In this report, we share our experience and technique of robot assisted laparoscopic RPLND in a patient with clinical stage Ib NSGCT of testis.

“…reported first RA-RPLND in 2006[ 12 ] and subsequently many other investigators reported small case series of RA-RPLND. [ 13 14 15 ] However, most investigators have reported their experience of RA-RPLND in CS IA, IB, IIA, IIB, IIC. There are only a few studies, which reported experience of RA-RPLND for postchemotherapy residual mass.…”

“…The surgical robot, equipped with a three-dimensional magnified vision and scaled movements of the instruments with an elimination of hand tremor, offers a great promise to overcome these hurdles. The initial data on robot-assisted RPLND (R-RPLND) is in the form of case reports[ 43 ] and small case series. [ 44 ] These studies have stated the feasibility of R-RPLND in low stage NSGCT.…”
