“… 7 9 In addition, the hormonal, physical, and bacterial exposures of newborns delivered by CS are different from those delivered by VB, which can lead to changes in physiology, a higher risk of developing allergies, breathing problems, a low Apgar score, childhood onset of type 1 diabetes, and even obesity in adulthood. 2 , 8 Furthermore, increased rates of CS are associated with significantly higher costs than VB thus imposing an economic burden on the healthcare system, resulting from extended hospital stays, an increased probability of re-hospitalization, and more. 5 , 8 , 10 , 11 …”

“…Additionally, other Brazilian studies using the Robson Classification were localized ( 21 - 22 ) , restricted to specific institutions ( 23 - 24 ) , or had different objectives, such as evaluating the association between cesareans and prematurity ( 25 ) or the association between access to prenatal care and the occurrence of cesareans ( 26 ) . Other studies employed the Robson Classification to assess the occurrence of cesareans in the country but during periods close to its implementation as a strategy, such as from 2011 to 2017 ( 20 ) , and from 2014 to 2016 ( 27 ) .…”
