Robust Macroscopic Polarization of Block Copolymer–Templated Mesoporous Perovskite‐Type Thin‐Film Ferroelectrics

Abstract: Ferroelectrics play an important role in various applications, from electronics to mechanics, optics, and biomedicine. Here, the preparation of a series of block copolymer–templated mesostructured (lead‐free) oxide ferroelectrics is described. Distorted perovskite LiNbO3, LiTaO3, and solid solution LiNbO3–LiTaO3 are produced as single‐phase thin films of good quality by the dip‐coating method using an evaporation‐induced self‐assembly process. They are investigated by a combination of electron microscopy, X‐ra… Show more

“…To exclude the non-switching contributions (dielectric capacitance and leakage current) in this compressed ferroelectric powder sample, a positive up-negative-down (PUND) method with a double triangular voltage pulses was used. [31][32][33][34] The typical rectangular polarization hysteresis loop as a function of the electric field (P-E) is shown in Fig. 5 along with the current density versus the electric field ( J-E) peak, confirming the macroscopic ferroelectric response due to the intrinsic spontaneous polarization.…”

“…Although unavoidable parasitic contributions such as pure dielectric polarization and leakage current can mask the switchable spontaneous polarization (ferroelectric hysteresis loop), the occurrence of the current spike corresponding to switching is often an ambiguous signature for the existence of ferroelectricity. 35,36 PUND measurement, which rely on a pulse train of two consecutive positive and then two negative triangle voltage pulses of same amplitude and delay time, is a convenient method to get rid of the non-switching contributions and to obtain the genuine ferroelectric polarization in lossy improper ferroelectrics. 37 As shown in Fig.…”
