Robust Platelet Logistics Planning in Disaster Relief Operations Under Uncertainty: a Coordinated Approach

Abstract: Abstract:Resource sharing, as a coordination mechanism, can mitigate disruptions in supply and changes in demand. It is particularly crucial for platelets because they have a short lifespan and need to be transferred and allocated within a limited time to prevent waste or shortages. Thus, a coordinated model comprised of a mixed vertical-horizontal structure, for the logistics of platelets, is proposed for disaster relief operations in the response phase. The aim of this research is to reduce the wastage and s… Show more

“…Rahmani [25] proposes a robust model for the BSN design by using p-criterion technique to protect the solution against the risk of disruptions. Similar works can refer to Shishebori and Babadi [26], Zahiri et al [27], Fereiduni and Shahanaghi [28], Ramezanian and Behboodi [29], Samani and Hosseini-Motlagh [30], and Kamyabniya et al [31]. These works indicate that RO can provide robust solutions to unexpected disasters.…”

“…By Central Limit Theorem, the total demand for blood product a is approximately normally distributed especially when Ω nm is big enough. Let X a be the demand for blood product a of each injured person per hour, and the mean and variance of total blood demand are explained as formulas (30) and (31):…”

“…In enhancing typical agent based simulations, with fuzzy actions, the work pushes the boundaries of agent based simulations in this context. The fuzzy and uncertain features of human actions in a disaster setting is further highlighted in the work presented by Kamyabniya et al (2018) in Paper 7. Kamyabniya et al (2018) focus on the critical actions in the management of medical resources (blood bank resources) in this context.…”

Kamyabniya et al (2018) focus on the critical actions in the management of medical resources (blood bank resources) in this context. Despite their clear importance in all types of emergencies, few works in the past have looked at these types of actions.…”
