Robustness of a quasiparticle interference test for sign-changing gaps in multiband superconductors

Abstract: Recently, a test for a sign-changing gap function in a candidate multiband unconventional superconductor involving quasiparticle interference data was proposed. The test was based on the antisymmetric, Fourier transformed conductance maps integrated over a range of momenta q corresponding to interband processes, which was argued to display a particular resonant form, provided the gaps changed sign between the Fermi surface sheets connected by q. The calculation was performed for a single impurity, however, rai… Show more

“…22 does not call for any assumption about the structure of the order parameter in the momentum space, as long as it either has or does not have regions with the opposite gap signs. While this derivation was completely general, it was also confirmed by extensive numerical simulations with finite disorder 26 . Using this method, the authors of Ref.…”

“…The initial theoretical work of the DBS-QPI technique 19 has actually provided a treatment for the multi-impurity system by applying the phase correction 42 to the measured FT-QPI pattern for multiple impurities g m ( q , E ). The FT-QPI for a single impurity can be derived as…”

“…Comparing STS with and without a sufficiently high magnetic field is likely to clarify this issue. Alternatively, one could potentially use quasiparticle interference imaging to explore sign changes in the superconducting order parameter [48][49][50] The enhancement of the QPP in the lower dI/dV spectra is apparent from the peak height increase relative to the peak height of the UHB. (b) dI/dV spectra taken from the center of three 3-Sn domains, showing the enhancement of the QPP for the smallest domain.…”
