Abstract:In fractured rock masses, discontinuities control the mechanical response of rock slopes. They even define the geometry of a potential failure, known a kinematically controlled failure. Hence, a proper characterization and description are needed to assess their stability. Accordingly, in this work, a reliability assessment of rock wedges' stability was performed by a Monte Carlo simulation. The orientation of discontinuities was modeled as a random variable that follows the rotationally symmetric Fisher distri… Show more

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
