Role of lncRNAs in Cellular Aging

Abstract: Aging is a universal, intrinsic, and time-dependent biological decay that is linked to intricate cellular processes including cellular senescence, telomere shortening, stem cell exhaustion, mitochondrial dysfunction, and deregulated metabolism. Cellular senescence is accepted as one of the core processes of aging at the organism level. Understanding the molecular mechanism underlying senescence could facilitate the development of potential therapeutics for aging and age-related diseases. Recently, the discover… Show more

“…However, no previous studies have focused on the role of lncRNAs in early AMD. Considering the extensive effect of lncRNAs on physiological function, 11 it is reasonable to think that lncRNAs can significantly influence the development and progression of early AMD. In the present study, we identified a set of lncRNAs that were differentially expressed in early AMD, confirmed the expression patterns of selected lncRNAs in an in vitro model, and performed a preliminary investigation into the biological effects of dysregulated lncRNA on AMD development.…”

“…Hence, any cause that affects the proliferation capacity of spermatogonia can lead to spermatogenesis process disorders. It has been proved that almost all cellular processes are modulated by lncRNAs, and the imbalance of these noncoding molecules appear to be associated with the development of a variety of diseases (Degirmenci & Lei, ). A study of Lu et al confirmed that downregulation of miR‐320a/383 sponge‐like lncRNA NLC1‐C has correlation with male infertility and accelerates the proliferation of testicular embryonal carcinoma cells (Lu et al, ).…”

“…LncRNAs constitute non-coding RNAs over 200 nt long, which regulate gene expression patterns at the transcriptional, post-transcriptional and post-translational levels. LncRNAs display tissue specific gene expression 64,65 and are thought to have direct roles in the aging process. Putative roles for other lncRNAs have been identified in conditions such as heart failure, cardiac autophagy, hypertension, acute kidney injury, glomerular diseases, acute allograft rejection and renal cell carcinoma.…”
