Abstract:Signalling by innate immune cells is critical to shaping the adaptive immune response to microbial infection. In this issue of The EMBO Journal, Labzin et al reveal that the adaptive immune system can instruct the innate response to adenovirus infection. In human macrophages, antibody‐coated adenovirus triggers a novel TRIM21‐dependent pathway that activates the NLRP3 inflammasome and the secretion of IL‐1β.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
