Root Canal Disinfection Articles with the Highest Relative Citation Ratios. A Bibliometric Analysis from 1990 to 2019

Abstract: The relative citation rate (RCR) is a normalized article-level metric useful to assess the impact of research articles. The objective of this bibliometric study is to identify and analyze, in root canal disinfection, the 100 articles having the highest RCRs in the period 1990–2019, then compare them with the top 100 articles most cited. A cross-sectional study was performed, and the search strategy ((Disinfection AND root canal) AND ((“1990/01/01”[Date-Publication]: “2019/12/31”[Date-Publication]))) relied on … Show more

“…In this bibliometrics, more than half of the studies were designed in vitro , followed by narrative reviews. In vitro studies are essential for evaluating the efficacy of relatively newly produced materials before conducting animal and in vivo studies [ 17 ]. However, clinical studies with high evidence levels are needed to apply the developed materials and technologies in routine dental practice.…”

“…Bibliometrics is the quantitative analysis of academic publications in various aspects in order to assess the historical progression of research fields and the scientific productivity of researchers, countries, institutions, and journals [ 17 ]. These analyses allow researchers to define past and present trends, identify gaps in the literature, and guide future studies [ 18 ].…”

“…For example, consensus development conferences and guidelines are a way to bring together citizens, decision-makers, and an array of experts to address issues of public importance; clinical trials are situated at the peak since their results are highly valid (Lazcano-Ponce et al, 2004); and meta-analysis is the statistical process of analyzing and combining results from several similar studies (Harris et al, 2014). Reviews (5), in addition to their educational component, are hypothesis generators, which are very important when analyzing a new topic such as COVID-19 (Valderrama et al, 2021).…”

“…In endodontic therapy, root canal disinfection is the first step to resolve apical periodontitis [ 12 ]. To this end, irrigating solutions [ 13 ] and intracanal medication [ 14 ] may control infection [ 15 ] and restore health to affected tissues. Ibuprofen (IBP) is a widely used NSAID that pertains to aryl-propionic acid derivatives.…”
