Rotated paleomagnetic poles from the Sassamansville syncline, Newark basin, southeastern Pennsylvania

Abstract: A paleomagnetic fold test was conducted at eight sites collected from the Sassamansville syncline which folds the Norian age Passaic Formation along the border fault of the Newark basin in southeastern Pennsylvania. “…Coincident with these elevated temperatures was extensive hydrothermal activity and¯uid migration (Hubert & Dutcher 1999), providing for the bleaching of the arkoses and production of new ferric iron phases. It must be noted that, if the site locations for these sample are rotated some 15u, the directions move into coincidence with other Newark Basin overprint directions, as suggested by Kodama et al (1994b). The arkose B component is not unlike a remagnetized direction in the Sassamansville Diabase (72uN, 137uE) determined by Kodama & Mowery (1994) and a B component seen in the Passaic sediments in the Sassamansville syncline of 67uN, 147uE (Kodama et al 1994b).…”
