Abstract:A one-step, low-yield route to 1,1,1,2,2,3-hexachloropropane by the aluminum chloride-catalyzed reaction of methylene chloride and tetrachloroethylene is described. Previously published procedures to this compound required fiveor six-step sequences based on carbon tetrachloride-ethylene or allyl chloride, respectively.
