Russian Foreign Policy: Challenging the Western Liberal International Order?

Why do illiberal states make commitments to multilateral international institutions? The existing literature on multilateralism has been dominated by neoliberal institutionalism and liberal-minded constructivism and needs a reality check. This article suggests an eclectic explanation of illiberal states' commitment to multilateral international institutions by combining neoclassical realist and constructivist views on state behavior.
