Rutin–phospholipid complex in polymer matrix for long-term delivery of rutin via skin for the treatment of inflammatory diseases

Abstract: The drug with poor oral bioavailability necessitates the development of novel carrier for efficient drug delivery. This paper reports the rutin-phospholipid complex in polymer matrix for sustained delivery of rutin via the skin for the treatment of acute and chronic inflammatory diseases. Rutin in phospholipid complex (RNPs) are better soluble and permeable than the free rutin. The RNPs-loaded polymeric matrix patch with moderate adhesiveness was developed for convenient means of long term drug application on … Show more

“…Most patients choose non-invasive examination that can provide results instantly. Compared with pathological examinations, RCM has more advantages: it is non-invasive, real-time, dynamic, easy to conduct, reproducible, and has a short operation time [ 53 , 54 ] ( Table 2 ). However, it cannot replace histopathological examinations, which are the gold standard for disease diagnosis.…”

“…To overcome these problems, different delivery systems for RT were studied [37], such as complexation with β-cyclodextrin [38] or phospholipids [39], encapsulation into polymeric nanoparticles [40,41], or nanoemulsions [42]. In this way, high anti-inflammatory, anti-cancer, and antioxidant activities were observed through different methods of administration [43][44][45]. Furthermore, delivery systems can be designed to improve the biodistribution of RT in the brain for the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases induced by oxidative stress [46].…”

“…Drug–phospholipid complexes can accelerate the drug diffusion across the lipid membrane. For example, Rutin–phospholipid complex significantly enhanced the transdermal delivery of Rutin and Rutin‐mediated efficacy for arthritis treatment (Kalita & Das, 2018). Because of the advantages of lipid for transdermal delivery, many lipid‐based systems have been developed to facilitate transdermal delivery.…”
