“…As for the FT-IR spectra of HEC, the peak at 3423 cm –1 is resulted from the stretching vibration of the −OH group. Compared with HEC, one stronger stretching vibration absorption peak at 1726 cm –1 is exhibited in the FT-IR spectrum of OHEC, which is resulted from the characteristic absorption peak of CO bond in the aldehyde group, indicating that the oxidation reaction has arisen. For OHCM-50 hydrogel, it can be observed that the peak at 1638 cm –1 is attributed to the angle vibration of H–O–H due to hydrogen bonds among the hydrogel .…”

“…The Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectra of CMCS, HPC, OHPC, Fe 3 O 4 , and the nanoparticle-containing hydrogel (NP-hydrogel) are shown in Figure A. Compared with the FTIR spectrum of HPC, that of OHPC showed a new absorption peak at 1730 cm –1 , which belongs to the characteristic absorption peak of the aldehyde group (CO), indicating successful oxidation of the hydroxypropyl groups . In addition, the strong absorption peaks at 510 cm –1 in NP-hydrogels and Fe 3 O 4 nanoparticles are characteristic peaks of −Fe–O.…”

The X-ray diffraction (XRD) spectra of the above compounds are shown in Figure 1B.…”

“…Thiolation of polymer backbones derived from naturally occurring biopolymers, like hyaluronic acid [ 52 ], chitosan [ 53 , 54 ], alginate [ 55 ], gellan gum [ 56 , 57 ], starch [ 58 ], glycogen [ 59 ], cellulose [ 60 , 61 ], arabinoxylan [ 62 ], xanthan gum [ 63 , 64 ], and cyclodextrins [ 65 , 66 , 67 ] have been studied as mucoadhesive materials. The mucoadhesive properties of thiolated synthetic polymers have been studied, also.…”
