Salt Effects on Formation and Stability of Colloidal Gas Aphrons Produced by Anionic and Zwitterionic Surfactants in Xanthan Gum Solution

Abstract: This work is devoted to the influence of NaCl salt concentration on the formation and stability of colloidal gas aphrons (CGA) produced by the anionic surfactant sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) and zwitterionic surfactant coco amido propyl betaine (CAPB) in the presence of xanthan gum (XG) as a stabilizer. Dynamic surface tension measurements as well as volume and half-life time of the produced foams are considered for stability analysis. A sharp decrease of the half-life time and volume of the CGAs at NaCl conce… Show more

“…Regarding the NaCl added in solution, there is a reduction in the half-life time of CO2 microbubbles dispersions. It could be explained by at least two main reasons: reduction in viscous shell thickness of microbubbles since electrical double layers are compressed in the presence of NaCl [26]; and also increasing NaCl concentration leads to a decreased ability of the XG polymer to build up the viscosity [52]. In this study, we conducted the experiments with different concentrations of SDS surfactant varying from 2000 to 3000 ppm.…”
