Sampling Requirements for Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitoring in the Diagnosis of Hypertension in Pregnancy

Abstract: Abstract-Previous studies on ambulatory blood pressure monitoring as a potential screening test for hypertension in pregnancy have not carefully considered sampling requirements. We have examined the impact of duration and frequency of blood pressure sampling in the reproducibility of mean values in pregnancy. We analyzed 2430 blood pressure series sampled every 20 minutes during the day and every 30 minutes at night for 48 hours every 4 weeks from the first obstetric visit until delivery in 235 normotensive a… Show more

“…Further advantages include the use of 48 h sampling as opposed to the more common 24 h sampling of BP by ABPM and the use of wrist actigraphy to determine the diurnal and nocturnal means of BP for each patient according to the individual sleep-wake time. Advantages of the extension of BP sampling over at least two consecutive days have been previously documented (Hermida & Ayala, 2003;Hermida et al, 2002bHermida et al, , 2002c. In keeping with many other trials comparing the antihypertensive efficacy of several antihypertensive agents, this study relied on a PROBE design.…”

“…The two meta-analyses of recently published randomized trials [45][46][47] have thrown much light on the effectiveness of nCPAP ventilation as a therapy to reduce BP. Both metaanalyses reported small, but significant reduction in mean and SBP with nCPAP ventilation.…”

“…O MAPA tornou-se uma ferramenta essencial no diagnóstico e manejo da hipertensão, como indicado por Hermida et al (2019). Este método fornece uma avaliação mais precisa da pressão arterial, ajudando na identificação de hipertensão mascarada ou hipertensão do jaleco branco.…”
