“…Consequently, we suggest the Late Palaeozoic siliciclastic rocks in the Lower Yangtze area to be a more plausible source for 1.7–1.9 Ga zircon population. Detrital zircons from the Permian Longtan Formation in Lower Yangtze area (SCB) exhibit a prominent 1.8 Ga zircon and monazite peak (Kan et al., 2022; Li et al., 2017; Shi et al., 2021; Figure 11), similar to that in the Lower Jurassic strata in this study. Additionally, the Permian strata in the SCB contain abundant chert layers (Kan et al., 2022), which is supported by the abundant chert clasts observed (Figure 4a–f).…”

“…However, two lines of evidence show that the underlying Permian Longtan Formation is an unlikely source: (a) The zircon U-Pb age spectra do not match. In addition to the Permian zircon peak (c. 269 Ma), the Permian Longtan Formation has a major peak age at c. 1.8 Ga, while the Triassic strata in this study have two major peaks age at 259-294 Ma and 430-440 Ma, with minimal Paleoproterozoic detritus; (b) The lithic clasts in the Longtan Formation sandstones are predominantly felsic volcanics (C. Li et al, 2017), while the Triassic sandstones in this study are dominated by metapelitic lithics. Moreover, the U-Pb detrital zircon record of coeval Triassic strata in the eastern coastal region which are derived from the Late Paleozoic continental arc are also different from the Triassic sedimentary basins surrounding the Dabie orogen (only two populations at c. 1.8 Ga and c. 0.2 Ga; Shen et al, 2021;Yao et al, 2012), while their petrographic composition (felsic volcanic lithics vs. metamorphic lithics and muscovite grains in this study) also differs greatly.…”
