“…In this study, DEGs identified in the spleen between CRS and FRS significantly enriched the phenylalanine metabolic pathway. Moreover, transcriptome studies in human [ 31 ], chicken [ 32 ], fish [ 33 ], and white shrimp Litopenaeus vannamei [ 34 ] have also shown that the important role of phenylalanine metabolic pathway in the control of immune ability. Moreover, our results showed that all the DEGs (PAH, TAT, and AOC3) enriched in the phenylalanine metabolism pathway were significantly upregulated, indicating that the phenylalanine metabolism pathway was promoted in CRS geese.…”

“…L-leucine and L-lysine have physiological functions of regulating fish growth, metabolism and immune response [ 45 , 46 ]. L-tyrosine is an essential substrate of melanin synthesis, and melanin plays an important role in wound healing and antimicrobial host defense responses to promote an immune response in aquatic animals [ 47 , 48 ]. Our findings clearly revealed the disorder of amino acid metabolism in the crucian carp kidney could be induced at a low concentration of NaHCO 3 (20 mmol/L), including phenylalanine, tyrosine and tryptophan biosynthesis, tyrosine metabolism and valine, leucine and isoleucine biosynthesis ( Table S2 ).…”

“…By contrast, the function of purine metabolism was uniquely coded in health cohorts (Figure S8). An induced metabolism of purine increases shrimp immune response, thus strengthening shrimp resistance to Vibro alginolyticus (Kuo et al, 2022). Following this logic, shrimp disease resistance benefits from increased purine metabolism.…”
