Inspection of pressure safety valves (PSVs) is critical for the safety of process plants which also involves cost. API proposes a Risk-Based Inspection (RBI) method that includes consequences and probability of failure. In this work, PSVs installed in different pressurized equipment of a gas processing plant located in Comilla, Bangladesh, have been studied in order to establish and implement a risk-based inspection planning process in the facility in accordance with API 580 and 581. The probability of failure and consequence of failure have been assessed separately and then combined to determine the risk of failure. The results have been used to assess the acceptability of the current inspection schedule in the facility and present some inspection planning guidelines in order to manage risks. The outcome indicates that a large fraction of the overall risk is concentrated in a relatively limited number of PSVs. These potentially high-risk PSVs should require greater consideration through an amended inspection plan in which more regular inspections are to be scheduled for these devices while inspection intervals may be extended for PSVs identified as having lower risk.

Transportation oil and gas mostly used pipelines transportation. Pipeline has the possibility to experience defects during operations such as general corrosion, fatigue, crack, and others. Defects that occur in the pipeline during operation have serious impact to environment, human, property, etc. Awareness of the importance of conducting pipeline monitoring and safety issues for workers and residents around the pipeline site, emphasizes the importance of developing a technology for conducting pipeline monitoring activities in real time. The new technology for detecting metal defects is by using piezoelectric material as sensor. Based on laboratory scale, piezoelectric sensor can be applied to monitor pipeline defect. However, it is necessary challenges to scaling up in real application are following: (1) financial investment, (2) human behavior surrounding pipeline area, (3) receiving signal in long distance, (4) protection of piezoelectric sensor, (5) combination survey for future development.

The corrosive geothermal fluids combined with high temperature and high-pressure work systems cause intensive corrosion. Corrosion that exceeds the safe limits can cause gas leaks which are hazardous to the environment and personnel. It is important to inspect the location of corrosion in the equipment. The existing methodology for inspection is carried out regardless of the risk level of the equipment. Therefore, it is necessary to apply the appropriate method to conduct inspections based on risk level. This research proposed a Risk-Based Inspection method to determine the scheduling and methods for inspecting scrubber vessel in the gas removal system of the geothermal power plant. Based on the analysis, it is recommended to carry out direct inspection for the shell part of the steam scrubber (VS-81-009) using radiography or ultrasonic scanning.
