Writing in English language demands both mental skills and a suitable level of language proficiency. Some studies showed that writing anxiety has an impact on the acquisition of language learning. This study; however, teaches the cognitive strategies (PLAY & WRITE) as a writing strategy, so as to decrease students’ use of it when experiencing writing anxiety at the academic writing level. The sample has been (100) second-stage Department of English learners at the College of Education (Ibn –Rushd), in the University of Baghdad-Iraq. They have been randomly selected and divided into experimental and control groups; (50) students in each group. To achieve the objective of the study, SLWAI questionnaire has been distributed to the experimental group, who has been taught the writing strategies. Each student has to writte a minimum of 100-word essay topic once per week for 15 weeks. As for the control group, it has been taught using the conventional way. The hypothesis states that there is no effect of using the PLAN and WRITE Strategies on the Iraqi EFL College Students’ Writing Anxiety. The instrument incorporated a SLWAI questionnaire that has been adopted from Cheng (2004). The pre-and post-questionnaire information has been analyzed using (SPSS). Essay writing strategies has found to have positive effects on decreasing the writing anxiety of the trial team. Furthermore, the composition strategies (PLAY & WRITE) facilitate the writing environments and decrease the tensions of students when writing a composition.

Cognitive stylistics is a branch of linguistics that focuses on the study of how language and literature interact with human cognition and mental processes. This study presents a cognitive stylistic analysis of Lewis Capaldi's song "Someone You Loved." This study aims to explore the cognitive processes and stylistic features employed in the song's lyrics. This research uses a descriptive qualitative method by focusing on, highlighting, and analyzing each lyric in the song. The results of this study show the coherence among figures of speech used in the song. In conclusion, this study contributes to understanding how cognitive processes and stylistic choices intertwine in constructing emotional narratives within song lyrics.

This study is intended to examine the deceptive strategies utilized in the well-renown Agatha Christie's (1926/2002) detective fiction The Murder of Roger Ackroyd to fill a gap in the literature by conducting a pragma-stylistic analysis of the novel. To do so, the researchers have set two objectives which are phrased as follows: firstly, examining the pragma-stylistic choices that are used to surface the deceptive strategies on the character-character level in the pre-dénouement stage and secondly, investigating the pragma-stylistic choices that are used to surface the deceptive strategies on the narrator-reader level in the pre-dénouement stage. The stylistic idiosyncrasies of Christie's Dr. Sheppard are carried out through an eclectic pragma-stylistic approach to expose his deceptive strategies for the fulfillment of his selfish ends. Therefore, the study at issue follows an eclectic conceptual framework which comprises Merzah and Abbas's deceptive principle (2020) and Chen's (2001) self-politeness, along with the stylistic effects achieved via the manipulation of such linguistic tools, to explore the two levels of discourse, namely, character-character level and narrator-reader level proposed by Black (2006). The qualitative analysis of the novel has exhibited that Dr. Sheppard is an expert deceiver who principally relies on indirect strategies, as he is cognizant of the power of what is insinuated but left unsaid.
