SCLE-LP overlap syndrome

Abstract: A 35-year-old female presented with scaly annular and pigmented lesions all over the body of 2 years duration. Her clinical features, histopathology, immunofluorescence findings and positive ANA and anti-Ro antibodies were suggestive of subacute cutaneous lupus erythematosus-lichen planus. We report this case because of its clinical rarity.

“…Fewer than 50 cases have been reported in the literature before 2011 (Sekar et al, 2011). There is much controversy over whether these two diseases actually overlap (necessitating the distinction of this overlap syndrome) or if reports are simply coexistent episodes of these two diseases in the same patient.…”

“…7 , 8 , 9 A variant of the overlap syndrome, consisting of CLP and subacute cutaneous lupus erythematosus, has also been described. 10 The common etiology of the 2 diseases is frequently cited as the reason for this coexistence. 9 , 10 …”
