PES electrospun fibrous membrane for oily wastewater treatment: Fabrication condition optimization using response surface methodology

Abstract: Dependence of the polyethersulfone electrospun fibrous membrane (EFM) performance on direct and interactive effects of electrospinning parameters and post heat‐treatment conditions were studied using RSM technique. A designed number of 29 EFM samples with different average fiber thickness and average pore radius were prepared. Modified quadratic models were developed based on the experimental results to predict the membrane performance in oil‐in‐water (O/W) emulsion separation. The low error of permeation flux… Show more

“…21 PES electrospun mats have good mechanical properties while their hydrophilicity is affected by the fiber's morphology. Bahmani et al 22 fabricated PES electrospun fibrous membranes for oily wastewater treatment. They used 26 wt% PES in DMF:NMP (1:1) mixed solvent.…”

“…Oily wastewater (OW) is produced by several industrial processes, including petrochemical, chemical, metallurgical, pharmaceutical, textile, steel, leather, and food manufacturing [Ismail et al, 2019;Alsalhy et al, 2016]. Therefore, the produced OW must be appropriately treated to address environmental and human health concerns [Bahmani et al, 2021]. The hydrocarbon content of fresh water sources grows as a result of the growth of these sectors.…”
