Single nucleotide polymorphisms in long noncoding RNA, ANRIL, are not associated with severe periodontitis but with adverse cardiovascular events among patients with cardiovascular disease

Abstract: SNPs in ANRIL are not risk modulators for severe periodontitis and history of CVD in CV patients. The AA genotype of ANRIL SNPs rs3217992 possesses prognostic power for further CV events within 3 years of follow-up.

“…Moreover, another study on 22 healthy adults with moderate to severe periodontitis who underwent complete mouth disinfection found that, at one-month follow-up, periodontal treatment resulted in significant improvements in periodontal pocketing, flow-mediated dilation, and serum IL-6, as well as a trend toward reduction in serum CRP [46]. Furthermore, several studies have reported that an intensive periodontal treatment resulted not only in a temporary increase in serum levels of CRP and IL-6, but also in a significant improvement of endothelial dysfunction indexes at six months after active periodontal therapy [47][48][49].…”

“…In addition to the involvement of antisense RNAs in cardiac diseases via diabetes, antisense transcription/transcripts are also directly associated with cardiovascular diseases. Recent studies have implicated antisense RNAs as new diagnostic markers with therapeutic potentials for cardiovascular diseases [210,211,212,220,221,222,223,224,225,226,227,228,229,230,231,232,233,234,235,236,237,238,239]. For example, an antisense transcript H19, discussed above, is associated with cardiovascular diseases such as CAD.…”

“…ANRIL variants (e.g., rs10965215 and rs10738605) resulting from single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) are associated with the risk of MI in the Chinese Han population [228]. The ANRIL variant rs3217992 has been connected to adverse cardiovascular events [229]. Furthermore, another ANRIL SNP variant, rs10757278, was linked to the development of major adverse cardiovascular events in hemodialysis patients [230].…”
