Search for dark matter in association with an energetic photon in pp collisions at $$ \sqrt{s} $$ = 13 TeV with the ATLAS detector

Abstract: A search for dark matter is conducted in final states containing a photon and missing transverse momentum in proton-proton collisions at $$ \sqrt{s} $$ s = 13 TeV. The data, collected during 2015–2018 by the ATLAS experiment at the CERN LHC, correspond to an integrated luminosity of 139 fb−1. No deviations from the predictions of the Standard Model are observed and 95% confidence-level upper limits between 2.45 fb and 0.5 fb are set on … Show more

“…The strategy employed by ATLAS and CMS is to show exclusion limits in the DM mass versus mediator mass plane for selected benchmark scenarios proposed in [16]. For light DM states, results from the ATLAS collaboration [17], looking for the dark matter production in association with an energetic photon at √ s = 13 TeV, exclude mediator masses up to 920−1470 GeV, depending on the scenario. However, scenarios [16] assume relatively strong mediator coupling to quarks, g qqY = 0.1 or 0.25.…”

“…[16]. Compared to the latter, we add constraints on g aγZ from the most recent mono-γ searches by the ATLAS Collaboration [62] (labeled "Z → γ + inv. (LHC)"), constraints on g aγγ from resonant lightby-light scattering γγ → a → γγ measured in Pb-Pb collisions by both CMS and ATLAS [63,64] (labeled "Light-by-light (LHC)") and constraints on all EW couplings from nonresonant searches in diboson production via gluon fusion at the LHC (labeled "Nonresonant ggF").…”

“…B. Monojet searches at the LHC Model-independent searches for DM at the LHC are primarily performed via monojet [10,11] and monophoton analyses [30,31], which can be interpreted in the context of simplified DM models, see Refs. [12][13][14], with the monojet final state typically providing the stronger limits.…”
